Argentina

Known for the liveliness of the tango, the exploits of Maradona and great steaks, Argentina prides itself on its energy and its talent for sumptuous living.

With a rich tradition in football and hockey and an increasing presence in rugby and cricket wherever you go you are likely to see people kicking or hitting a ball.

Away from its passion for sport its pleasures - stunning natural wonders, an elegant, European-flavoured capital and a passionate culture - are all so tempting. The country's great variety and elongated geography can make a visit in any season worthwhile and an interest in sport and some nimble foot skills may be all you need to feel like a local.

Buenos Aires boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and stylish restaurants; a vibrant, cosmopolitan capital. Wander cobbled streets, marvelling at faded architectural glories and colourfully painted metal houses or talk football in atmospheric old cafes. Further east, Iguaçu Falls are an amazing spectacle of nature's awesome power with 5000 cubic m of water per second plunging the 80m into the abyss below. Sightseeing boats at the base of the falls take you next to (and sometimes under) the falling water to view them in all their spectacular and thunderous glory. Boats above the falls will take you almost to the very rim, close enough to make your heart skip a beat and for an extra thrill helicopter rides are another exciting option!
