Barbados Rugby Festival

A fantastic opportunity to play Rugby and enjoy the best the Caribbean has to offer

The tournament: The inaugural You Invent Barbados rugby tournament will be a 15-a-side event, taking place in March 2010. A maximum of 16 teams will compete in the cup, plate and shield competitions over 3 days. A beach 7's tournament may also be scheduled later in the week, in which all participating teams will be expected to enter at least 1 team. The comprehensive tournament programme will enable participating clubs to enjoy this fundamentally winter sport in the sun, whilst also making the most of everything this wonderful Island has to offer!

The location: Barbados is a beautiful island, with lots of activities, nightlife, music, history and some of the best restaurants to be found anywhere. But what makes Barbados even more special, and the reason why so many visitors keep returning to the island year after year, is the people. Barbadians, called Bajans, are warm and friendly and always ready to greet you with a sincere smile.

Barbados has seen the game of rugby played since the 1900's, initially by the British Forces, and their families, that were stationed there. The game of rugby continued to be played on the island during the 1940's and 1950's until the formation of the Barbados Rugby Football Union in 1964. It was at this point that members erected a clubhouse at the Garrison Savannah, which has become the home of Rugby Barbados! In 1995 ‘Rugby Barbados’ was successful in becoming a member of the International Rugby Board (IRB).
